What the registration test is
In the UAE, a car needs to pass a technical test at an approved testing centre to register or renew its registration. It checks basic roadworthiness and safety items, such as brakes, lights, emissions and tyres, to confirm the car can legally be on the road. Exact requirements are set by each emirate's authority.
What a pre-purchase inspection is
A pre-purchase inspection is for the buyer. It checks the car's real condition, including things a registration test doesn't look for: previous accidents, repainted panels, chassis repairs, hidden fault codes, worn suspension, gearbox behaviour and the general state of the engine.
Side by side
| Registration test | Pre-purchase inspection | |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Is the car legal and safe to drive? | Is the car worth buying, and at what price? |
| Who it's for | The authorities | You, the buyer |
| Accident repairs | Not assessed | Checked with paint readings and chassis inspection |
| Computer fault codes | Not the focus | Full OBD scan |
| Result | Pass or fail | Detailed report with photos |
Which do you need?
Both, in different situations. The registration test is a legal step the seller or buyer must complete. The pre-purchase inspection is your protection before you pay. A car can pass the registration test and still have a repainted body, an unfixed fault or a gearbox about to fail.
Questions, answered.
If the car passed the test, do I still need an inspection?
Yes. The test confirms legal roadworthiness, not the car's true condition, accident history or hidden faults.
Can an inspection replace the registration test?
No. They're different. Ours is an independent inspection for buyers and is not an official test.
